General Manager - Stephen Johnson

Stephen Johnson was born and raised in Richmond, VA, a graduate of Monocan High School; he attended Greensboro College in North Carolina. Stephen moved to Charlotte in 2006 and in 2008 began work at Dvine Wine Café in the Ballantyne neighborhood. Dvine’s General Manager, Justin Boudrie sparked Stephen’s passion for wine and after Boudrie’s departure in 2010, Stephen assumed the title of General Manager.

In 2013 Stephen joined the service staff at Heritage Food & Drink, leaving in 2016 to become General Manager at Rush Espresso Café and Wine Bar in Ballantyne.
Stephen values an approachable style to service that is rooted in excellence and a culture that supports both accountability and empowerment for his staff. Stephen encourages his staff to listen carefully to guests and to make thoughtful, informed recommendations, especially when they are those that steer guests a little out of their comfort zones.

In 2017 Stephen received an Intro Sommelier certification from the Court of Master Sommeliers, Americas.
Stephen is an enthusiastic UNC Tar Heel sports fan (especially basketball!); he is passionate about wine and loves continuing to learn with the support of his family, and valued friends within the industry.

Stephen has a daughter, Blake, who is 18. He married his wife Cari in 2017; they live in Fort Mill, South Carolina.
